Wasting Time Online? Master StayFocusd for Chrome Today We have all been there. You open your browser to check a work email, and two hours later, you are deep in a social media rabbit hole. The internet is designed to capture your attention, making workplace productivity a constant battle. Fortunately, you can take back control of your time. StayFocusd, a highly customizable extension for Google Chrome, acts as your digital boundary keeper.

Here is how to master StayFocusd to eliminate distractions and boost your daily output. What is StayFocusd?

StayFocusd is a productivity extension that restricts the amount of time you can spend on time-wasting websites. Instead of blocking sites entirely, it allocates you a specific daily budget for distractions. Once your allotted time is used up, the extension blocks those sites for the rest of the day. Step 1: Set Your Daily Time Allowance

The default setting gives you 10 minutes of restricted browsing per day, but you can customize this to fit your workflow.

Click the StayFocusd icon in your toolbar and select Settings. Navigate to the Max Allowed Time tab. Enter your preferred daily limit (e.g., 30 minutes). Click Set Max Allowed Time to save. Step 2: Build Your Blocked List

Identify the specific websites that drain your productivity and add them to your restricted list. Go to the Blocked Sites menu in your settings.

Type the URLs of your main distractions (like facebook.com or youtube.com). Click Add Blocked Sites.

Pro tip: You can block entire domains, specific subdomains, or even pages with specific file types. Step 3: Define Your Active Hours

You do not need StayFocusd running when you are off the clock. Configure the extension to only monitor your browsing during your actual working hours.

Click on Active Days to select the days you work (e.g., Monday through Friday).

Click on Active Hours to set your start and end times (e.g., 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).

Outside of these windows, your blocked sites will become fully accessible again. Step 4: Activate “The Nuclear Option”

When a critical deadline approaches and you cannot afford even a five-minute distraction, use the Nuclear Option. This feature overrides your standard daily allowance. Select The Nuclear Option from the settings menu.

Choose what to block: all websites, only your blocked list, or everything except your allowed list. Set a countdown timer for how long you need to hyper-focus. Click Nuke ‘Em.

Warning: Once activated, this cannot be canceled or reversed under any circumstances until the timer runs out. Step 5: Turn on the Challenge Feature

The biggest flaw in any productivity tool is your own willpower. If you try to change your settings to sneak more time on a blocked site, StayFocusd can stop you. Navigate to the The Challenge tab.

Turn this feature on to force yourself to complete a difficult task before altering your settings.

You will have to type a long, complex paragraph perfectly without making a single typo.

By the time you finish the challenge, your urge to procrastinate will usually have passed. To help tailor this setup, let me know: What are your top three distracting websites?
